This is one of my Grandma’s recipes and I decided to bake some up for Mason this week. I can remember her making them for all of us grandkids growing up and I’m sure she’s smiling from heaven knowing another generation is enjoying them now.
Donnie Cookies are named after my Uncle Don. Why? Well, I guess you’d have to know him to understand why a mother would be inspired to name a cookie after him. Here’s a hint: he’s the type of guy who (along with my Uncle Paul and Aunt Brenda) drove all the way up here last week to see me before and after my surgery. We stick together. Kinda inspiring.
1 c sugar
1 c Crisco
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp salt
3 tsp baking powder
3-4 c flour
1 c milk
1 bag semisweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cream together sugar and Crisco. Whisk in egg and vanilla. In a separate bowl, combine salt, baking powder and 3 cups flour. Mix together with sugar mixture. Stir in milk. Add chocolate chips. Slowly add in only as much additional flour is needed to make a dough. Roll onto a floured surface and cut with cookie round. Bake on greased cookie sheet for 12-14 mins.
